Every year, I look forward to seeing which shade Pantone names its Color of the Year. Some years I totally get it, and other years I’m left wondering how on earth I’m supposed to work that color into my everyday life.
For 2025, though, Pantone chose a color that feels surprisingly easy to use. Move over bright and bold hues, because Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025 is here to wrap us in cozy sophistication. Say hello to Mocha Mousse.
Officially PANTONE 17-1230, Mocha Mousse is a soft, creamy brown inspired by the familiar tones of cacao, chocolate, and coffee. It’s earthy without feeling boring and fits right in with the warm browns, natural textures, and softer color palettes we’ve been seeing everywhere.
And the best part? This isn’t one of those trend colors that feels impossible to actually use in real life. You can wear it, decorate with it, pair it with colors you already love, or simply add a few touches here and there without suddenly making everything you own brown.
So whether you’re here for Mocha Mousse outfit ideas, home decor inspiration, or you’re just curious what all the fuss is about, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite ways to bring Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year into your everyday style.

What is Mocha Mousse?
If you’re trying to picture Mocha Mousse without staring at a Pantone swatch, think of it as sitting somewhere between a classic brown and a warm taupe. It’s softer than a traditional chocolate brown, but it has more depth than your typical beige.
That’s probably what I like most about it. It feels very livable. You don’t have to completely redecorate your house or build an entire wardrobe around brown to make it work. It’s the kind of color that can quietly slip into what you already own, whether that’s a sweater, handbag, throw pillow, or even a fresh manicure.
It also plays surprisingly well with other colors. Cream and ivory are the obvious choices, but blush pink, olive green, burgundy, and even soft blue can completely change the way Mocha Mousse feels. We’ll get into those combinations a little further down.
Why Did Pantone Choose Mocha Mousse for 2025?
Pantone’s Color of the Year is meant to reflect what’s happening in culture. It also captures the kind of mood we’re collectively gravitating toward. For 2025, that meant slowing things down a little.
Pantone described Mocha Mousse as a color connected to comfort and simple pleasures. It’s about those little indulgences that make everyday life feel special. And honestly, when you think about the last few years of bright dopamine colors and attention-grabbing trends, I can see the appeal of something a little quieter.
There’s also something inherently comforting about brown. We see it in coffee, chocolate, wood, leather, and so many natural materials. They’re the same tones and textures that make our homes feel warm and inviting. Mocha Mousse takes that familiarity and makes it feel a little more elevated.
That’s also why I think this particular Color of the Year feels easier to embrace than some of Pantone’s past picks. Compare it to Pantone’s 2024 Color of the Year, Peach Fuzz, which brought a much softer peachy-pink color into the mix. It’s a trend, yes, but it doesn’t necessarily look trendy. Mocha Mousse could easily live in your closet or your home long after 2025 is over.
What Colors Go With Mocha Mousse?
One of the reasons Mocha Mousse is so easy to work with is that you’re basically starting with a neutral. You can keep things soft and tonal with creams and warm whites, lean into earthy shades like olive and camel, or use it to ground colors that have a little more personality.
A few of my favorite colors to pair with Mocha Mousse are:
- Cream and ivory for a soft, warm neutral palette
- Blush and dusty pink for something a little more feminine
- Olive and sage green for an earthy, organic look
- Burgundy and wine for a richer combination, especially in fall and winter
- Soft blue for a little contrast without feeling too bold
- Camel and tan if you want to layer different warm neutrals
- Black or charcoal for a more modern, polished look
You can also bring in brass or gold through jewelry, hardware, or accessories. The warmth of the metal looks especially pretty against this shade of brown.
The combination I’d choose really depends on where I’m using it. In my home, I’d probably stick with creamy whites, natural wood, and touches of olive or sage. In an outfit, I’d be much more likely to throw in blush, burgundy, or even a soft blue.
How to Wear Mocha Mousse
Mocha Mousse might be a “trend” color, but brown has become a wardrobe staple. That makes this particular trend feel a lot less intimidating. You may even have a few pieces in your closet already without realizing you’re technically wearing Pantone’s Color of the Year.
Mocha Mousse also works especially well in a [capsule wardrobe] because it’s such an easy neutral. You can mix and match it with plenty of pieces you already own.
For an easy everyday outfit, try a mocha sweater or cardigan with straight-leg jeans and sneakers or loafers. For something a little more polished, pair it with cream trousers or layer different shades of brown. You can also bring in some of the colors we talked about above.
And you definitely don’t need to commit to head-to-toe brown. One piece is plenty. Try a blazer, sweater, pair of trousers, or even just an accessory. You’ll get the look without making yourself feel like you dressed as a latte.

Mocha Mousse Accessories
Accessories might actually be the easiest way to try Mocha Mousse. They’re perfect if you’re not ready to add a bunch of brown clothing to your closet. A mocha handbag, pair of shoes, belt, or scarf gives you just enough of the color without having to plan an entire outfit around it.
I especially love brown accessories with denim, cream, black, and white. They add a little warmth where black accessories can sometimes feel too harsh. And because brown is such a classic neutral, these are pieces you’ll be able to wear long after Mocha Mousse’s Color of the Year moment is over.

How to Decorate with Mocha Mousse
Mocha Mousse feels almost made for home decor. If you love warm, organic spaces, you may already be decorating with some version of this color. Think wood tones, woven textures, pottery, leather, and other natural materials.
You can absolutely go bigger with a Mocha Mousse-inspired paint color, but you don’t need to paint an entire room brown. Smaller pieces like throw pillows, blankets, and curtains can bring in plenty of warmth. They’re also much easier to switch out later.
I’d also look for pieces that bring in the color naturally rather than trying to match the Pantone swatch exactly. A warm brown vase, rug, or lamp can give you the same overall feeling. Pair those pieces with creamy whites, natural wood, linen, and a little greenery to keep the room from feeling overly themed.
That’s probably how I’d use it in my own home. More as a warm layer mixed into the neutrals I already love than as the color of the entire room.

Mocha Mousse Beauty Ideas
Mocha Mousse might be even easier to wear in your beauty routine than it is in your closet. Warm browns and taupes are already staples in so many makeup bags, which means you can get the look without suddenly buying brown everything just because Pantone told us to. 😂
For makeup, think soft brown and taupe eyeshadows, warm nude lipsticks, and glosses with caramel or mocha undertones. They’re neutral enough for everyday makeup but still give you that warm, pulled-together look that makes Mocha Mousse so pretty in the first place.
And then there’s probably my favorite way to wear this color: nail polish. A creamy mocha manicure feels neutral without defaulting to the same pale pink or nude, and I especially love it for fall and winter.

Mocha Mousse FAQs
Q: What is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2025?
A: Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025 is PANTONE 17-1230 Mocha Mousse, a soft, warm brown inspired by the comforting tones of cacao, chocolate, and coffee.
Q: Is Mocha Mousse brown or beige?
A: Mocha Mousse is considered a brown, but it’s much softer than a traditional chocolate or dark brown. It has warm, muted undertones that put it somewhere between a creamy brown and a warm taupe, which is why it can sometimes read almost beige depending on what you pair it with.
Q: What colors go best with Mocha Mousse?
A: Mocha Mousse pairs beautifully with cream, ivory, blush pink, dusty rose, olive green, sage, burgundy, camel, soft blue, black, and charcoal. Since it’s a neutral, you can keep the palette soft and tonal or use Mocha Mousse to ground a more colorful combination.
Q: Is Mocha Mousse still in style?
A: Even though Mocha Mousse was Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2025, warm brown is much bigger than a single-year color trend. Brown is a classic neutral that works across fashion, interiors, and beauty, so you don’t have to retire everything mocha-colored just because the calendar moved on.
Final Thoughts on Pantone Mocha Mousse
Looking back at Pantone’s 2025 pick, I think Mocha Mousse was one of the easier Color of the Year choices to actually live with. It’s warm, neutral, and versatile enough that it never really needed to feel like a “trend” in the first place.
I probably wouldn’t run out and redecorate an entire room in Mocha Mousse, but I can absolutely get behind bringing more warm browns into my home and wardrobe. A cozy sweater, a brown handbag, a pretty mocha manicure, or a few warm accents around the house? Those are the kinds of trends I can actually use.
And even though Mocha Mousse had its official moment in 2025, I don’t see warm brown disappearing anytime soon. It’s a classic neutral, and that’s ultimately what makes this particular Pantone pick feel like it has a little more staying power than some of the bolder Color of the Year choices we’ve seen. And if you’re curious what came next, Pantone went in an entirely different direction with Cloud Dancer, the 2026 Color of the Year.
What did you think of Mocha Mousse as Pantone’s Color of the Year? Did you end up adding any of it to your closet, home, or beauty routine? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear how you used it!
