If you don’t already have Amazon Prime, I wanted to make sure you knew about this before Prime Big Deal Days gets here.
This post contains affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. I may also earn a commission when eligible readers sign up for certain Amazon services through links on this page, at no additional cost to you.
Amazon Prime Big Deal Days is happening October 6–7, 2026, and you have to be a Prime member to shop the Prime-exclusive deals.
BUT.
If you’re eligible, you can actually sign up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime right now. Which means you can try Prime for free and have access to the sale next week.
So if you’ve been on the fence about Prime, this is honestly a pretty good time to give it a try.
And before you automatically sign up for the regular trial, keep reading because there are also special Prime membership options for young adults, college students and qualifying customers that may be an even better fit for you.
Wait, You Can Really Try Amazon Prime Free for 30 Days?
Yep!
Eligible customers can sign up for a 30-day Amazon Prime free trial before deciding whether they want to keep the membership.
During your trial, you can use your Prime benefits, including fast, free shipping on eligible purchases, entertainment benefits and access to Prime-exclusive shopping events like Prime Big Deal Days.
I feel like this is especially worth knowing right now because we’re so close to the sale.
Prime Big Deal Days starts October 6, so you can sign up beforehand, check out some of the early deals that are already popping up, and then be ready to shop when the actual event starts.
If you decide Prime isn’t something you want to keep after you’ve tried it, just make sure you cancel before your trial ends so your membership doesn’t renew at the applicable paid rate.
Are You 18–24 or a College Student? Read This First!
Okay, before you sign up for the regular 30-day trial, stop here for a second if you’re between 18 and 24 years old or currently a college student.
You may qualify for Prime for Young Adults, and the free trial is WAY longer.
Eligible new members can get a 6-month free trial of Prime for Young Adults.
Yes, you read that correctly.
Six months free!
So if you’re eligible for Prime for Young Adults, I would definitely check this option before signing up for the regular 30-day Prime trial.
You’ll still get access to Prime benefits during your trial, which means you can get your membership set up in time to shop Prime Big Deal Days October 6–7, but you’ll also have several months afterward to decide whether Prime is something you actually use enough to keep.
And if you decide to continue after your trial, Prime for Young Adults offers an ongoing discounted membership for eligible members.
So if you’re a college student, between the ages of 18 and 24, or have a college-aged kid in your life who doesn’t already have Prime, check this offer first.
Eligibility and terms apply. Check the offer displayed on your Amazon account before enrolling.
There’s Also a Discounted Prime Option Called Prime Access
This is another Prime option that I don’t think nearly as many people know about.
Amazon offers Prime Access, a discounted Prime membership for customers who qualify through certain government assistance programs or income verification.
Eligible customers get the same Prime membership for a reduced monthly price.
So if the regular cost of Prime has been what’s keeping you from signing up, I would absolutely check your eligibility for Prime Access before paying full price.
Depending on your eligibility, Amazon may ask you to provide documentation or verify your income or participation in a qualifying program during enrollment.
Again, there’s no reason to pay the regular membership price if you qualify for one of Amazon’s discounted membership options, so it’s worth checking first.
When Is Prime Big Deal Days 2026?
This year’s Amazon Prime Big Deal Days is October 6–7, 2026.
The event runs for 48 hours and includes Prime-exclusive deals across more than 35 categories.
And honestly, I think the timing of this sale is SO good.
We’re officially heading into holiday shopping season, but it’s still early enough that you don’t have to feel like you’re frantically buying Christmas presents at the last minute. I’m already keeping an eye on deals for things I would normally be buying anyway, along with gifts I know I’ll need over the next couple of months.
You can expect deals across categories like:
(You can click each department in this list to see Today’s Deals!)
And you don’t necessarily have to wait until October 6 to start shopping.
Amazon has already started rolling out early Prime Big Deal Days deals, so I’m keeping an eye on those too.
What Do You Actually Get With Amazon Prime?
Obviously, we all know about the shipping.
And I’m not going to lie, the shipping alone is probably the Prime benefit I use the most.
There is something incredibly convenient about realizing at 9 p.m. that you’re almost out of diapers, toothpaste, cat food, birthday wrapping paper, or some other random thing you absolutely do not want to drag everyone to the store for… and then having it show up at your house.
But Prime actually includes quite a bit more than shipping.
Fast, Free Delivery
Prime includes fast, free delivery on millions of eligible items, with Same-Day and Next-Day delivery available on many items depending on where you live.
This is easily one of my favorite Prime perks, especially in this stage of life with little kids, when a “quick trip to the store” is rarely actually a quick trip to the store.
Just last month, I cleaned out Wednesday’s litter box only to realize we were completely out of fresh kitty litter. 🤦🏼♀️ Instead of loading everyone up and running to the store, I ordered a bag on Amazon and it was sitting on my doorstep less than an hour later.
I mean…it’s hard to argue with that kind of convenience. 😂
Prime-Exclusive Deals
This is obviously the big one right now.
Prime members get access to member-exclusive savings throughout the year, including shopping events like Prime Big Deal Days October 6–7.
So if you already have things sitting in your Amazon cart or you’re planning to start holiday shopping soon, I’d definitely check the prices during the sale before buying them.
Prime Video
Prime also includes access to Prime Video, with movies, shows and Amazon Originals.
So even if you originally sign up because you want the shipping or access to Prime Big Deal Days, there are other benefits included in the membership too.
Other Prime Benefits
There are plenty of other shopping, entertainment and savings benefits bundled into a Prime membership as well.
Personally, I think whether Prime is “worth it” really comes down to how much you actually use it.
If you’re ordering from Amazon regularly anyway, shopping the Prime-exclusive sales and using some of the other included benefits, it may make sense for your household.
And that’s also why I like the idea of trying it for free first instead of immediately committing to paying for an entire year.
Which Amazon Prime Membership Should I Choose?
If you’re looking at all of these options and thinking, okay…which one am I actually supposed to sign up for?, here’s the easiest way to look at it. If…
You’re a regular Amazon customer:
Check your eligibility for the standard 30-day Amazon Prime free trial.
You’re 18–24 or a college student:
Check Prime for Young Adults first because eligible new members may receive a much longer 6-month trial along with discounted membership afterward.
You receive qualifying government assistance or meet Amazon’s income eligibility requirements:
Check whether you qualify for Prime Access and its discounted membership price.
Basically, check whether you qualify for one of the special membership options before automatically paying full price for regular Prime.
How Much Does Regular Amazon Prime Cost After the Free Trial?
This part is important because I don’t want anyone accidentally getting charged if they decide that keeping their subscription isn’t worth it.
After the free trial, Amazon currently lists a standard Prime membership at:
$14.99 per month
or
$139 per year
Your membership will continue at the applicable paid rate after your trial unless you cancel.
So if you’re signing up mainly to try it out or shop Prime Big Deal Days, set yourself a reminder before the 30 days are up.
Then you can decide whether you’ve actually used Prime enough to justify keeping it.
Prime for Young Adults and Prime Access have different discounted pricing and trial lengths for eligible members. Make sure you check the current membership price Amazon displays when you enroll.
How to Sign Up for a 30-Day Amazon Prime Free Trial
This part is super easy.
If you’re eligible for the offer:
- Head to Amazon through the link below.
- Sign into your existing Amazon account or create one.
- Check the Prime trial offer available for your account. (Links for all 3 account types are higher up in this post!)
- Follow Amazon’s instructions to complete enrollment.
- Start using your Prime benefits!
Once you’re signed up, you can start using your Prime benefits right away.
Just keep in mind that free-trial eligibility varies by account, so not everyone will necessarily see the same offer.
Can I Use My Free Trial to Shop Prime Big Deal Days?
Yes!
And this is really the whole reason I’m writing this post right now.
Amazon specifically says eligible customers can start a Prime free trial to participate in Prime Big Deal Days.
So if you’ve been seeing me talk about Prime Big Deal Days and thinking:
“Well, that’s great, but I don’t have Prime…”
You don’t necessarily have to sit this one out.
If you’re eligible, you can start your free trial now, shop the early deals, shop Prime Big Deal Days on October 6–7, and then use the rest of your trial to figure out whether Prime is something you actually want to keep.
Already Have Amazon Prime?
Then you’re already good to go!
I’ve started putting together my favorite Prime Big Deal Days early deals across the categories I normally share here on Capsule of Sunshine. That includes home, fashion, beauty, kids, wellness and everyday finds.
I’ll also be updating that post as I find more deals worth sharing, especially once the sale officially starts.
Because I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather have someone weed through the thousands of “deals” and show me the things that are actually worth looking at.
So, Is the Amazon Prime Free Trial Worth It?
If you’ve never been interested in Prime and don’t really shop on Amazon, I’m certainly not going to tell you that you suddenly need a membership just because there’s a sale coming up.
But if you’ve already been thinking about trying Prime?
This is probably one of the better times to do it.
If you’re eligible, you can try Prime free. Use the membership benefits during your trial and have access to Prime Big Deal Days October 6–7.
And then you can decide for yourself whether you actually use it enough to keep paying for it.
Just make sure you check which Prime option you’re eligible for first:
Regular Prime: Check for a 30-day free trial.
Prime for Young Adults: If you’re 18–24 or a college student, check for the 6-month free trial.
Prime Access: If you meet the eligibility requirements, check out Amazon’s discounted membership option.
Then pick whichever one makes the most sense for you.
Just don’t forget about that renewal date!
And if you’re signing up specifically for Prime Big Deal Days, head over to my Prime Big Deal Days Early Deals roundup next.
I’m already adding the deals I think are actually worth looking at instead of making you scroll through approximately 4,000 pages of Amazon deals to find the good stuff.
